The TTDI Residents’ Association Story ( http://ttdi-ra.com.my/about_us.htm )
EARLY DAYS
At meeting of interested residents held on 20 December 1986 the setting up of the Association was endorsed and the TTDI Residents’ Association Protem Committee was formed under the stewardship of Encik Abdul Rahim bin Jalaludin who subsequently got the association registered on 11 th January 1988 under the official name of Persatuan Pemastautin-Pemastautin Taman Tun Dr. Ismail. The Association is however more commonly known as TTDI Residents’ Association.
In those early days, meetings were held as well as most activities planned at the Nyonya Restoran (then located in Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad) owned by EXCO member Robert Ong. The energies of the young Association were focussed on membership recruitment. With a theme of “Together We Care” the RA seek to foster a common commitment in the pursuit of a community and environment we all can be proud of and happy to live in. Various activities which can help bring the community together were planned. The first Hari Keluarga was held on 26 April 1987 in the field along Jalan Abang Haji Openg, on which the present mosque now stands.
CHAIN of LEADERSHIP
At the inaugural AGM on 10 April 1988, Datuk Abdul Kudus bin Alias, freshly retired from the civil service as the Deputy IGP, took over the chairmanship of the fledgeling organisation. He was instrumental in procuring the KDN printing permit for the official newsletter and this paved the way for the regular production of the newsletter and hence better communications with the residents at large. Membership grew steadily and with that also the strength and activities of the RA.
Dr. Albert Lim, a medical specialist and Head of the Oncology Dept. of the KL General Hospital took over the Chairmanship after Datuk Abdul Kudus. During his term of office, he led the Association to focus on and work with the Authorities on key priority issues faced by the community. Various events like the Annual Dinner were organised to raise funds for the planned activities of the Association.
The next Chairman at the helm, Mr. Liew Khooi Cheng, a consultant engineer by profession, was the longest-serving Chairman to date. Besides his endeavours to improve basic infrastructure and playground facilities, he will be remembered for his untiring efforts to create awareness for the neglected former West Valley Park, promote and campaign for the building of a proper park in its place with exercise as well as recreational facilities, and the gazette of the whole area around it as a green lung for posteriority.
In the April 2004 AGM, Tuan Hj. Abdul Latif bin Mohd Som, who is also a consultant engineer by profession, was elected Chairman to lead a “youngish” and dynamic new Executive Committee and members can expect more activities as well as a more proactive approach to solving problems in the community.
